Llywelyn the Last retells the story of the last Welsh prince of Wales through a silhouette animation and is shown on the dungeon walls of Chirk Castle. The collage animation interpretes the story of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and his relationship with Roger Mortimer, the founder of Chirk Castle, as well as the rift between the Welsh and English. This is part of a wider pilot project to create surprising and stimulating ways to tell stories at Chirk Castle and help the visitor leave with a stronger sense of place.
The imagery was inspired by Medieval Art and created by cutting out my drawings, using drawing ink textures to give a linocut effect.
The animation was produced by Kate Hulme Ltd. Music by Peter Richards. Commissioned by National Trust.
